Ration Card Rules: In May, the news of ration card holders surrendering their cards in Uttar Pradesh went viral on social media. In this regard, it was argued that the ineligible ration card holders have to surrender the ration card by going to the tehsil. Otherwise, the government will cancel their cards and recover the ration received. However, later the government gave clarification on this and it was said that UP government has not made any such rule.
Ration Card Rules
Because of this no new ration cards can be made but now UP government has started the program to cancel ration cards in the state. According to the order given by the UP government, the names of ineligible people will be removed from the list of ration cards, and now only the needy will benefit from free rations.
It has already started in different districts of UP. In fact, according to the 2011 census, the government’s target of making ration cards has been met. In such a situation, no new ration cards can be made.
What is the rule if a cardholder has a land/apartment or a house of 100 square meters earned from income, four wheeler/tractor, gun license, family income above two lakhs in village and three lakhs annually in the city , then such people can’t take advantage of the government’s cheap ration scheme?
Urban population doubled in 2022 compared to 2011.
Instead of the cards of canceled ineligibles, the new needy are given the benefit of the ration scheme. Names are added to the national food security based on the population share of the year 2011. Let us tell you that the population of the city has doubled in 2022 from 2011.
The census was not conducted in 2021 due to the Corona census
2021 could not be done due to an increase in Corona cases. Increasing the share of the population for national food security has become necessary in this situation. Based on this, the urban poor will benefit from the scheme.
In such a situation, the new ration card applications coming to the district supply office and state tehsil level supply office are submitted. After that, on the basis of investigation, the ineligible ration cards are canceled and the ration cards of the eligible ones are made in their place.
For this, the ineligible have to wait for months. Departmental sources say preparations are underway to raise the target for 2011 based on population growth. Hence, the work of making new ration cards has been stopped.
