Xavier Alvarez shines as San Bernardino cruises to victory – San Bernardino Sun

San Bernardino junior quarterback Xavier Alvarez had eight touchdowns Friday night as the Cardinals routed Desert Mirage 76-0 in the season opener for both schools.

Alvarez completed all 10 of his pass attempts for 183 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 148 yards and five touchdowns on 13 carries.

Kyron Crain added 103 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and George Jones also scored a rushing touchdown for the Cardinals. Jones also had an interception and a forced fumble on defense. Jerome Weaver recovered a pair of balloons for San Bernardino.

FAILURES REVEALED FROM OTHER GAMES

Moreno Valley 50, Notre Dame 8: Adrian Anderson Jr. rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries and also intercepted two passes as the Vikings rolled in the season opener on Friday. Adoniz Hill completed 10 of 16 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Dwan London scored the only touchdown for Notre Dame on a 77-yard punt return.

Beaumont 17, Murrieta Mesa 14: Christopher Cooper threw a touchdown pass to DJ Littles in the closing minutes as the Cougars rallied to win Friday night. Murrieta Mesa had a 13-3 lead in the fourth quarter. Armando Cuellar scored in a run to help Beaumont cut that deficit to 14-10. Cooper finished the game with 301 yards. Sean Dyer had six catches for 100 yards.

Kaiser 49, Arroyo 14: Kiyel Tyler rushed for four touchdowns as the Cats scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to win a season opener on Friday. Tyler scored on runs of 17, 78, 5 and 48 yards to lead Kaiser to the victory. Jonathan Marshall Jr. added two rushing touchdowns for the Cats.

Patriot 41, Rialto 6: Isaiah Miramontes accounted for three touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a victory Friday night. Miramontes passed for 105 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 101 yards and two scores. Josiah Felix added 194 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and Brandon Lopez hauled in six passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Paloma Valley 41, Temescal Canyon 37: Brady Nelson completed 20 of 27 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats outlasted Temescal Canyon in the season opener on Friday.

Diamond Bar 28, Esperanza 21: Ryan Lewis completed 19 of 33 passes for 309 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Maddox Bernardino as the Brahmas won on Friday. Bernardino finished the game with 12 receptions for 267 yards and also had one of Diamond Bar’s three interceptions.

Lakeside 15, Arlington 14: Rene Maldonado scored a pair of touchdowns as the Lancers upset Arlington’s first game on campus Friday night. Maldonado scored his second touchdown late in the fourth quarter and Christian Maldonado added a two-point conversion to put Lakeside ahead. Lakeside finished the game with 369 yards rushing. Christian Maldonado led the way with 159 yards on 14 carries, while Joe Hernandez added 128 yards on 22 carries.

34 Elsinore, 32 Grand Terrace: Andrew Stankevich rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries as the Tigers won a season opener Friday night. Michael Holguin finished the game with 14 tackles and two sacks for Elsinore.

At Sierra 32, Whittier Christian 18: Ty Owens passed for 184 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Terry Reyes as the Eagles win a season opener Friday night. Reyes hauled in four balls for 153 yards and also returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown. La Sierra outscored Whittier Christian 24-0 in the second half.

View of Lake 56, Citrus Hill 0: Jaylen Patterson passed for 162 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Ravens to victory on Friday. Eight players scored a touchdown for Vista del Lago during the season opener, including a fumble return by Elias Warren.

Carter 20, Bears 16: Phillip Johnson Jr. scored on runs of 25 and 48 yards as the Lions rallied to win Thursday. Carter trailed 16-7 at halftime, but the defense stepped up and shut out Los Osos in the second half. Dominick Harrison, Manuel Perez and Ahmir Turner each intercepted a pass in the game for the Lions. Carter finished the game with 205 rushing yards.

Hillcrest 24, Riverside Poly 14: Christian Alvarado completed 12 of 16 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown as the Trojans win their season opener on Friday.

Santa Rosa Academy 30, San Jacinto Valley Academy 11: Justin York rushed for 128 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries as the Rangers won their opener on Friday. Daniel Marlow passed for 127 yards and also ran for 97 yards on eight carries.
