Despite being uncharacteristically quiet in recent months, Colby Covington has had some time off to make his final bid for the impending main event and co-headliner at UFC 278.

“Turmoil” is embroiled in a legitimate case involving UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal after an altercation outside a Miami steakhouse in March. The American’s absence from the venue could have cost him a matchup with the top contender and it remains unclear when we will see him back in the venue.

Giving the picks to his supporters on Instagram, Colby Covington predicted that welterweight lord Kamaru Usman will hold the whip against Leon Edwards. He also predicts that Paulo Costa would have to beat Luke Rockhold to make it at UFC 278.

“America’s Champion is back with America’s pick of the week…UFC 278 is tonight in Salt Lake City, so the king of Miami is in the lab making a play for the people…I know what you’re thinking, “Colby, these lines are subject. What should we do?’ Well, my friends, sometimes the juice is worth squeezing. Parlay, CEO of the EPO [Kamaru Usman] and Paul[o] Cost and make bank accounts great again.”

Luke Rockhold returns to the middleweight division after a long layoff and goes straight for the most dangerous man in the game when he faces Paulo Costa in the co-main event.

“Mayhem” has been on hiatus since his last Octagon outing against Jorge Masvidal. He remains arguably the biggest name in the 170lb division, yet he has fought champion Kamaru Usman for the belt twice and lost both times.

Plus, the weight class could look unique upon its return. The No. 1 ranked contender could be invited back by a small group of hungry welterweights, all vying to take their spot and fight for the title. The two major names that would seem right now for Covington’s recovery battle are the undefeated possibility Khamzat Chimaev and Brazilian Gilbert Burns.

However, the two battles are expressive issues for Covington. “Confusion” depends on his sparring and cardio to wear down and outmatch rivals. Chimaev is an incredible fighter and Burns is a BJJ wizard who is entirely likable on the court. In addition, “Borz” and “Durinho” have extra heavy hands.

Given his set of experiences with the current boss and possible matchups in the division, it may be a while before Colby Covington gets to fight for gold once again.
