Throw it on the fire: Pepsi unveils ‘S’Mores Collection’ flavors.

it is possible to burn an idea, or to erase all traces of an offensive image from the Internet through the cleansing power of fire? Let’s hope so, because you’ll no doubt want to start building a pyre after a good, long look at the horror above you: Pepsi is introducing a “S’Mores Collection” of flavored colas starting today.

Fortunately, the cola maker seems to realize that this concept isn’t something that could sustain itself beyond the one-time novelty factor, so the trio of different S’Mores flavors — chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallow toasty – for a limited time only. In fact, it looks like they won’t even be in stores – if you want to get your hands on one, you’ll have to be one of the 2,000 contest winners. According to the brand:

Starting today, fans can share a picture or description of how they are more on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #PepsiSmores and #Sweepstakes and follow @Pepsi for a chance to win a Pepsi Collection set Limited Edition S’mores.

Ah, there you have it – a piece for social media followers. Still, let’s celebrate how terrible each of these flavors sound individually, shall we? We’ll note that we’re once again grateful that they come in mini 7.5oz Pepsi cans, another admission that surely no one would want to drink a large amount of these.

Pepsi Toasty Marshmallow: This is “an all-new Pepsi mix,” according to the company, which means you get to be the lab rat—lucky you. It calls for a “marshmallow base,” which is a disturbing thing to read about in a cola, and adds “layers of toasty notes to mimic a light, campfire flavor.”

Pepsi Graham Crackers: It’s “infused with notes of honey and cinnamon to achieve a perfectly balanced graham cracker flavor profile.” We dare say this could aspire to be the least offensive of the S’Mores lot.

Pepsi Chocolate: It “contains dominant cocoa notes throughout, with slight hints of vanilla to create an added creamy sweetness, mimicking a slightly melted chocolate flavor.” Or, in other words, food scientists were so busy asking if they could that they didn’t stop to think if should.

Pepsi is even gregarious enough to include lots of different “recipes” for combining mini tubs, apparently thinking so little of their audience that I don’t think people could figure out “I can combine them in any report” alone. Leave it to a soft drink giant to find a way to think less of its customer base more than 50 years after it first hit store shelves. That’s Pepsi for you: an innovator.
