There is a Days Gone movie adaptation in development

Days Gone, Sony’s motorcycle zombie survival game, is getting a movie adaptation. Deadline reports that Sony PlayStation Productions is developing the project with Sheldon Turner attached as writer and Outlander’s Sam Heughan attached to star.

Days Gone is set in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest and stars outlaw-turned-wife Deacon St. John, as he travels to discover if his wife Sarah, previously presumed dead, is really alive. As a game, it was praised for some of its systems, compared unfavorably to Sony’s other post-apocalyptic story, The Last Of Us, and gently derided for its story. Sony PlayStation Productions is moving forward with project development following their first film adaptation, Uncharted, which was released in theaters earlier this year. Uncharted, which stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, has earned nearly $402m worldwide (around £341m). (Although it is extremely mediocre, sez I.)

Screenwriter Sheldon Turner’s previous credits include the Adam Sandler American football film The Longest Yard, a story credit for X-Men: First Class, and he was nominated for an Academy Award for co-adapting the screenplay for the George Clooney film Up In The Air. . The Deadline story says the Days Gone adaptation will be a “motorcycle movie love ballad.”

It’s worth noting that announcements like these don’t mean a movie will definitely happen. A production house that “develops” a film means that it has hired someone to write a script, and projects can go through several scripts, writers and pre-productions over the years and never reach the shooting stage. The Uncharted movie went into development in 2008, 14 years before it was finally released, when Tom Holland was 12 years old.
