The Ministry of Commerce accelerates the digitization of people’s markets, supported by Tokopedia

Bandung, Gadgets – Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan aims to accelerate the digitization of 1,000 people markets and 1,000,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (SME) traders across Indonesia. The digitization of the people market is in line with President Joko Widodo’s mandate for the Ministry of Trade to digitize the people market.

According to the man who is familiarly called Zulhas, the digitization of people’s markets aims to make the traditional markets have markets and platforms to the digital age that has now entered Indonesia. “The digitization of the marketplace will also facilitate meetings between merchants and buyers and shorten the distribution chain,” said Zulhas at “Implementing the Use of Digitization in Payment and Distribution Systems” held in Bandung (25/7).

The Indonesian Trade Minister also visited one of the popular markets, namely Pasar Baru Cicalengka which already has a digital channel on Tokopedia. Through Tokopedia, Pasar Baru Cicalengka has been able to support hundreds of local merchants to stay connected with people who need daily necessities, especially during the pandemic.

Digitization of the People’s Market in West Java

The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Zulkifli Hasan, hopes that the digitization of the market of people and SMEs can accelerate Indonesia’s advanced and inclusive economic growth. Especially with the support of digital platforms like Tokopedia, this effort will go a long way in accelerating the achievement of digital transformation goals, especially in the commercial sector.

“I saw and directly monitored the implementation of digitization at Pasar Baru Cicalengka through the Tokopedia marketplace. Here, the implementation of digitization of the people market for the period January-December 2021 saw an increase in orders of 5673 percent and an increase in sales of 9382 percent,” said Zulhas.

In addition to the central government, Tokopedia also synergizes with local governments to collaborate with new sellers, both individuals and marketplaces for people in different regions of Indonesia, including West Java.

So far, there are 10 marketplaces for people who have joined Tokopedia. Cicalengka New Market and Cihapit Market in Bandung, Cikurubuk Market in Tasikmalaya, Tangerang Anyar Market, Oro Oro Dowo People’s Market in Malang, Beringharjo Market and Gentan Market in Yogyakarta, Sewakamart Market in Badung in Bali and Baruga Market in East Pa’baeng-baeng and Baruga Pasar Kampung Baru in Makassar.

Tokopedia’s hyperlocal initiative

As a form of support for local SMEs, Tokopedia, part of the GoTo group, continues to step up the Hyperlocal initiative to bring sellers closer to local buyers so that they have the same opportunity to grow. One of them is encouraging the implementation of digitization of the people market.

“Through a spin-off program of the Hyperlocal initiative, Digitizing People’s Markets, we hope to provide a stage for people’s market activists from various regions in Indonesia to contribute to the digital economy,” explained Tokopedia co-founder and vice president Leonntinus Alpha. Edison.

“In practice, we will help open people’s marketplace accounts to do online business coaching on the Tokopedia platform,” added Leonntinus.

According to him, the digitization of people markets is also a form of support of Tokopedia in accelerating the target of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia to digitize more markets for people and SMEs by 2024.

In addition, the public can also take advantage of Tokopedia’s Free Shipping service so that they can more easily and efficiently get various daily necessities such as basic essentials and cooking oil for other household needs such as soap and shampoo.

Leonntinus said the company will continue to work with strategic partners, including the central and local governments, to provide safe and reliable solutions to help people meet their daily needs while boosting the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy.
