The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coaching line faces a big challenge to strengthen the squad, having to identify the second and third status players in the men’s and women’s singles events within six months.
The national badminton camp currently only has Ng Tze Yong as the top player in the men’s singles event, while S Kisona tops the list in the women’s singles.
To achieve this wish, BAM’s Director of Coaching (Individual), Wong Choong Hann and Coach, Hendrawan were given the responsibility to fulfill it
BAM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said it was still not enough and urged the coaching staff to immediately take the second and third positions in both events.
“The BAM men’s singles team currently has Tze Yong as their number one player. So I hope Choong Hann and Hendrawan can produce the second and third players. They will be given a period of six months.
“Everyone says we have Lee Zii Jia, Tze Yong, Liew Daren and Cheam June Wei, but from BAM’s perspective, we want Choong Hann to produce the number two and number three players to be in the top group,” he said after BAM. Board members meet at Bukit Kiara on Saturday.
Furthermore, Norza said, BAM hopes to see the same applied in the women’s singles team as it can be said that only Kisona can compete with the top players in the group.
“Individual women also face the same task of raising their respective positions and it depends on the coaching line.
“Dr. Tim Jones (BAM’s High Performance Director) will make an assessment on this issue based on the system that was presented (at the BAM Board of Directors meeting) and we approve it,” he said.
