I know people who are still, to this day, upset about a change in balance Final Fantasy XI this changed how TP was awarded for multi-hit weapon skills. This dates back to near the game’s North American release, meaning this is a grudge held for nearly 19 years at this point. And while I can’t fathom being so angry about something that happened so long ago, until now, the sheer dedication to holding onto that anger is impressive in its own, if somewhat misguided, way.

I named an entire column after a bad phrase in the patch notes all those years ago, so I kind of get it.

For the most part, I find that people don’t hold grudges against MMOs that long. You might be angry about something, but realistically, the anger starts to fade as a few months go by. But some things calcify and stick around, and before you know it, you’re still upset about the loss of the official RPG servers for Star Wars: The Old Republic despite the fact that it happened years ago.
