South African actress Charlbi Dean dies aged 32 from unexpected illness

South African actress Charlbi Dean – who appeared in the Palme d’Or hit The triangle of sadness — died at the age of 32, her consultant said on Tuesday (August 30).

“It’s devastating,” the publicist advised AFP via e-mail, confirming a TMZ report that Dean passed on Monday of an unexpected illness.

Hollywood celebrity website and publication Deadline stated that Dean, who was also a model, died in New York City.

Neither the consultant nor the studies provided details about the illness that caused her death.

Dean starred alongside Woody Harrelson and Harris Dickinson in Swedish director Ruben Ostlund’s film The triangle of sadness.

The sharp satire about class warfare won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May over the past 12 months.

In the film, Dean plays Yaya, a mannequin who is invited on a cruise for the ultra-rich who suddenly finds her position undermined by unexpected opportunities.

Dean was born on February 5, 1990 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Before she flips over triangle of sadness she was best known for voicing Syonide in The CW’s DC-based collection (*32*) Black lightning.

She also appeared in Spud (2010), Do not sleep (2017) and Blood in the water (2016).

In October 2008, she was hospitalized after surviving a car accident with fellow model Ashton Schnehage, according to the movie database website IMDb. – AFP
