A Pennsylvania woman who posted on TikTok and Facebook about her 10-year-old daughter’s medical problems was arrested last month for prolonging her recovery, possibly to raise funds.
After the victim had back surgery several years ago, her mother Yvette Brady, 31, allegedly prevented the incision from healing – causing her daughter Marlanea to undergo multiple surgeries after as WNEP reported.
Doctors became suspicious after the incision stopped healing under Brady’s care
Doctors at two hospitals were suspicious for a while because the girl’s surgical incision would heal while she was in the hospital or under the care of nurses at home, but the healing stopped when her mother was caring for her, he reported the press.
According to court documents, investigators asked doctors at one of the hospitals in June about possible child abuse. They described an attempt that involved faking, exaggerating and even causing the child’s symptoms.
According to WNEP, the girl told police in July that Brady coached her on what questions investigators would ask and how she should answer them.
Brady was unemployed, supporting herself with funds raised by Marlanea’s GoFundMe
Marlanea also told investigators that her mother was unemployed and supporting herself through donations — including a GoFundMe page that was set up for the girl’s medical recovery that raised more than $11,500 in donations. The local community also organized fundraisers to raise money for Marlenea’s medical expenses.
Marlanea has had up to 11 major back surgeries since she was born with one hemivertebra, severe congenital scoliosis and two heart defects, according to GoFundMe.
Brady posts about Marlenea’s back incision not healing
The mother also reportedly documented her daughter’s medical complications and recovery on TikTok and Facebook. “Marlee has another infection in her back because her body is not taking this healing process well,” Brady captioned a picture of Marlenea’s back incision in a Nov. 2 Facebook post.
“Marlanea’s open wound on her back has remained unchanged and present for about a month. Marlee will be going into surgery ‘hopefully after Christmas’ with plastic and wound care to repair it,” Brady wrote in a Dec. 7 post .
Brady was arrested and charged last month. She was charged with endangering the welfare of her child and simple assault. Brady waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Monday. Her next court appearance in Lackawanna County has not yet been scheduled.
