Nokia 9 PureView camera developer announces departure from smartphone industry

The surprising news comes from the camera module development company Light. In mid-2020, the company announced that it was exiting the Android device developer industry.

Light was the company that played a key role in the development of the Nokia 9 PureView penta camera. Before joining HMD Global in 2019, the company was already in the limelight when it launched a camera module with a 16-lens setup (L16) in 2015.

Although the L16 camera was not very successful at launch, the company was very successful in developing the Nokia 9 PureView camera. Unsurprisingly, after announcing its partnership with HMD Global, the company immediately announced separate partnerships with two other tech giants, Sony and Xiaomi.

With Xiaomi, the company should develop camera technology for its smartphone range. Meanwhile, together with Sony, Light plans to help develop the camera sensor for Xperia series phones.

However, after the announcement of the company’s decision to exit the smartphone industry, it is not known whether the partnership will continue or not. Light himself did not offer a statement on the matter.

In fact, Light has big ambitions with the various innovations it is launching. However, the final execution of this firm was not very satisfactory. Some of them even received quite a lot of bad responses, both from the media and from their users.
