An event celebrating the LGBTQ community is coming to Riverside this weekend.
Riverside’s Inland Empire Pride Festival is set for Sunday, September 4 at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium downtown.
Organized by Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride, the event is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. The organization serves the entire Inland Empire.
The free festival is billed on the group’s website as “a day of celebration, uplift and reflection”. The last such local event was in 2009, Cesario Mora, the group’s marketing assistant, wrote in an email.
“The Inland Empire is home to a huge and diverse queer community,” Mora wrote. “Bringing that kind of visibility and representation locally is so important because it’s such a comfort to know that where you live supports you and celebrates you for who you are.”
The event will include live music, drag shows, information about the history of the LGBTQ community, discussions, dancing and a DJ. It will also have a Youth Zone, designed by the Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance for those under 18, which will include educational materials, coloring, arts and crafts, video games, a reading area and a photo booth.
No reservations are required and Mora said the event is suitable for all age groups.
