Chelsea fans have taken to social media to express their thoughts after the Blues restricted the signing of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City.
Chelsea have announced the signing of Fofana from Premier League rivals Leicester. They paid an initial fee of £70 million to acquire the centre-back’s services.
Fofana thus becomes the Blues’ seventh major signing of the summer transfer window. He joins Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slonina and Cesare Casadei in moving to Stamford Bridge this season.
However, the 21-year-old’s arrival doesn’t seem to have lightened the mood much among Chelsea fans. The London giants have spent over £200million this summer but supporters believe the club need more signings.
Here’s how a section of the Blues faithful reacted to Fofana’s signing:
One Blues supporter tweeted:
“It’s funny how you keep buying defenders when all we need is [a] attacker.”
Another fan highlighted the need for the Blues to sign four more players before the transfer window closes tomorrow (September 1), writing:
“I love it guys, we can’t stop here. We need two more attackers, [a] midfielder and [a Reece] James backup.”
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea fans will get their wish before the transfer deadline. The Blues are in the market to sign at least one striker after completing the transfer of Fofana.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona in recent days. There have been suggestions that a €25m deal is close to being agreed for the 33-year-old.
The Stamford Bridge side are hoping to get a deal done for Aubameyang before the window closes.
Chelsea have had a bad start to the season
The Blues’ poor start to the 2022-23 season has only added to fans’ frustrations. The London giants have won just two of their five Premier League games so far.
Tuchel’s side are currently eighth in the table with seven points, having drawn one and lost two matches. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Southampton at St. Mary’s on Tuesday (August 30).
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the visitors after just 23 minutes of play. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side went on to win thanks to goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong.
Chelsea will now look to bounce back from their defeat when they host West Ham United on Saturday (September 3).
