Bong Go scores high praise for Filipinos for historic AFF Women’s Championship victory – Daily Tribune

To commend the members of the Philippine soccer team for winning the country’s first 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship on July 17 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, Senator Bong Go on Monday, July 25, filed Resolution No. 62 of the Senate.

More than 8,000 spectators witnessed the Filipinos’ historic victory over regional powerhouse Thailand War Elephants, 3-0. The Philippine team already made history earlier this year by also earning the Philippines’ first World Cup berth.

“I have been constantly pushing for an intensive development of sports in the country because I believe that sports is an effective way to keep young Filipinos away from vices,” Go said.

“It has been proven that the contribution of sports in our country is huge, not only can our countrymen be helped in health, but they are also given many opportunities in the field of sports,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Go also praised team manager Jeff Cheng and head coach Alen Stajcic for inspiring the team to do their best, leading them to win their first AFF championship this year.

The resolution also noted that the Philippine team’s triumph is the result of their hard work, dedication and perseverance. In addition, Go recognized how Filipino athletes have shown their grit, determination and competitiveness in international sporting events.

“The symbolic win has not only brought pride and honor to our nation, but has become an inspiration for the empowerment of youth and women,” Go remarked.

The senator also vowed to remain steadfast in promoting and protecting the welfare and interests of Filipino athletes.
