Anand Sharma quits Congress, says ‘Self-respect is non-negotiable’ IV News

Mumbai: Former Union Minister Anand Sharma He resigned as the President of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Steering Committee. According to sources, in a letter to acting Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Anand Sharma said his “self-respect is indivisible”.

Anand Sharma also tweeted, “It is with a heavy heart that I have resigned as President of the Congress Steering Committee for Himachal Elections. Reiterating that I belong to Congress for life and stand by my views.

“Commitment to Congress ideology runs in my blood, no doubt! However, given the constant ostracism and humiliation, as a self-respecting individual I have no choice,” Sharma added in his tweet.

It had been only five days since senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad made a comparable effort before the development in the Congress. Azad announced his resignation hours after he was appointed as the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress Campaign Committee on 16 August.
Sharma complained to Sonia Gandhi that she was neglected during the consultation process. However, he assured her that he would continue to advocate for the party’s candidates in the state.

On April 26, the former Union minister and deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha was appointed as the head of the Himachal Pradesh Governing Committee.

Sharma, who first contested the assembly elections in 1982 and was given a Rajya Sabha ticket by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since then and has held several important positions in the party.
